Michael Holt is embarrassed by his failure to make the step up from talented pretender to top-class player.
Holt, 30, was beaten by former world champion John Higgins in the first round of the World Championship and he said it has left him distraught.
The Nottingham potter told BBC Sport: "I played alright early on but I missed a red when I should have gone 6-6.
"After that miss I was in bits. I was upset and annoyed with myself. It's 10 years of nothing - it's embarrassing."
Holt, who has only once made it to the second round of snooker's showpiece event, was holding his own after a cagey opening session which saw him trail 5-4.
And although he made a decent start to Wednesday's session, his failure to draw level at 6-6 was to prove costly.
