Barry PinchesMurphy missed a crucial yellow at 4-3 and that was all the opening Pinches needed to fight back for a 5-4 victory.

Earlier, former world champions Stephen Hendry and Peter Ebdon both booked their berths in the second round.

Hendry took a 3-1 lead against Matthew Selt before wrapping up a 5-2 victory, while Ebdon beat China's Liang Wenbo by the same scoreline.

The pair shared the first four frames before Ebdon pulled away, winning the last with a run of 32..

Ebdon has won one Grand Prix title, back in 1993, while seven-time world champion Hendry is looking to clinch his fifth crown

Hendry said he felt "pretty comfortable" during his win over Selt.
