English Under 16 Final 2008-09

Sam Cragie backed by 110 Sport retained his English Under 16 title sponsored by Northern SC. Leeds, World Snooker Academy, English Institute of Sport, Sheffield
beating Tom Maxfield 6-3 in their third national final clash.

Jurys Inn sponsored the finals weekend and also provided accommodation for the players and officials.

Frame scores Sam Craigie first :
(71-69), (50-14), (13-65), (10-57), (37-70), 50(65-22), 52(68-27), 54(60-43),
(64-11) : 6-3

The pair shared the first four frames Craigie won the 40 minute 1st frame on the black after Maxfield potted brown, blue and a difficult pink having to play safe on the black.

Craigie easily took the 2nd frame making a hard plant to middle when in trouble and scoring a frame decider 23 points better safety from Maxfield secured the chances to win the next two frames comfortably, 32 the highest break.

At the resumption Craigie made some errors and Maxfield took the lead for the only time breaks of 24 and 20 enough.

Craigie then stepped up a gear a 50 break and the last red after a reckless attempt from Maxfield for 3-3, a 52 early on in the 7th Maxfield did have chances to fight back and a 54 to the pink after trailing 6-43 saw Craigie lead 5-3 a poor safety shot from Maxfield had brought into play the remaining five reds.

And a 33 break completed a composed win for Craigie.
