Wicheard on 1303 points now leads Stephen Craigie who won the first two events by 120 points, Kuldesh Johal is 3rd on 1012, 4th Rob James 932, 5th Antony Parsons 849, 6th Kyren Wilson 811, 7th Stuart Carrington and 8th David Craggs 753 with Wicheard, Johal, Parsons, Wilson and Carrington all having the chance to progress with further English Amateur points to possibly count.
Neither player in the final produced their earlier form Wicheard leading all the way against former English Under 19 winner Duffy who made five of the fourteen century’s over the weekend.
Wicheard found a 62 break to lead 2-1, Duffy 108 for 4-4 with the winner comfortably taking the last two frames.
Wicheard after a walkover against David Lilley battered Ben Harrison 5-1 with
breaks of 74,67 and 66, Harrison 79 and James McGouran 5-2 runs of 79 and 55,
McGouran 62.
In the semi finals Wicheard trailed Craigie 4-3 with a 90 from the then rankings leader, Wicheard 62 and for 4-4 a 61 break with the decider close 67-43.
Duffy started Saturday with a bang runs of 123 and 122 to lead Mark White 2-0 then fell behind 3-2 eventually winning the last three frames on the colours he never led David Craggs in the last 16 until the decider no breaks from either player.
He then trounced Syd Wilson 5-1 with breaks of 114 and 52 and finally finished his last four match with a event best of 125 to beat Carrington 5-2 who led 2-0 with efforts of 99 and 89, Duffy also runs of 89 and 73.
A number of players let slip leads in the first two rounds James Welsh 74 break led Kyren Wilson 3-0 but faltered under breaks of 101,87 and 54.
Shaun Wilkes led 4-2, Matt Wilson Daniel Ward and Johal all 3-1 up, Ward fluent with breaks of 107,53,80,66 and 51 but not enough losing in the 2nd round 5-4 to Craigie even with the last three breaks, Craigie then let slip a 4-2 lead in the quarters but prevailed over Leo Fernandez 114, 5-4.
