Entry numbers slipped for the first event of the new season due to the promotion of quite a few young EASB regulars to the Main Tour from the last PIOS.
Plus the attraction of the new World Snooker PTC, Sheffield and a chance to play a top flight player.
North – North East Derby SC, Clay Cross
In a entertaining final Robbie Williams, Wallasey last seasons Play Off runner up edged former U19 winner Adam Duffy, Sheffield 5-4 clinching victory with a 85 break.
Duffy won the first frame with a run of 53, Williams replied with efforts of 42,49 and 54 to easily lead 3-1, Duffy with breaks of 51 and 52 could only share the next two frames but drew level at 4-4 with an 86 and then a re spot.
Except for one other match Williams comfortably reached the final beating Sanderson Lam 4-0, 69, Lam 53 then Stephen Craigie 4-3 from 3-2 down, Craigie 67, Williams 71, David Grace 4-1, 63, Williams 69 and 62, Craig Steadman 4-2 and finally James Silverwood 4-2 from 2-2 finishing with 102 and 80.
In his first match Duffy recovered from 3-0 adrift to beat David Craggs crushed Craig Barber 4-0 with contributions of 68,64,58 and 55 plus a 4-1 over Alan Evitts ending with a 4-3 win against ex Eng Am winner Steve Judd who led 3-1 Duffy ending with breaks of 58 and 56.
Judd and Neville Whalley shared the high break of 109.
South – Woking SC, Surrey
Relegated from the Main Tour last season Sam Baird, Cullompton posted his intention of a quick return beating James Loft, Hastings 5-3 in a low scoring final, Baird led 2-0,49, Loft 3-2,47, Baird closing out the next three frames with a 46 break to take the 7th.
The winner accounted for Danny Douane 4-0,73,56 and 71 breaks, Lewis Mayes 4-3, the loser runs 64 and 77, James O’Sullivan 4-2 the 6th frame on the black and finally a good performance to beat Michael Wasley 4-2 with breaks of 88,68 and 69.
Loft scalped some good players to reach his first PTT final Matt Wilson 4-2 from 2-0 up, 69 break, Wilson 73, ex Main Tour’s Andrew Norman 4-3 after leading 3-0, Loft found a 79 break in the decider, Ryan Causton and Darren Bond also both the full distance Bond led 3-2 with a 63.
Ben Harrison made the highest break of the weekend 110.
