Last 16 North – Northern SC, Leeds
Snooker stalwart David Craggs booked his place in the 2009 final with a gritty performance in Leeds, Craggs a member of Durham City the World Team Champions edged Stuart Carrington, Grimsby, 6-5 in the area’s final which lasted over 5 hours.
Craggs never lost a frame in his first three matches beating veteran Barry Stark 4-0, Jamie Barrett 4-0 and Under 19 Champion Adam Duffy also 4-0 with only two breaks of 51 to show against Duffy he won the first two frames on the black.
In the final he trailed 4-1 after winning the 1st frame, Carrington runner up in the pro ticket made breaks of 57 and 42.
He opened the 5th with a 40, Carrington countered with 48, Craggs cleared to the
pink to and reeled of the next three frames comfortably to lead 5-4 with a 56 in the 8th his highest break of the weekend.
Carrington forced the decider with a 65, Craggs closed out his best ever individual result 71-50 in the last frame potting yellow to pink in three visits.
Carrington in the Under 19 final this weekend has applied for a wild card on the Main Tour after having an outstanding career at junior level he stands 2nd in the Pro Ticket Rankings after winning a early event in the series.
He crushed Main Tour bound Ben Woollaston 4-0, 79 break, Scott Miller 4-3 after leading 3-1 with scores of 99 and 68 and fellow Pro Ticket Tour event winner James McGouran 4-0 breaks of 57 and 52 in the last two frames.
Three times Champion David Lilley lost to John Whitty 4-3 after leading 3-2, Whitty then lost 4-2 to Duffy.
Last 16 South – Woking SC
Jimmy Robertson posted another impressive show beating the home clubs Sean Bullock 6-3 in the final.
Robertson led 4-1 with a 62 break winning the 4th frame 65-54, Bullock who went onto win the Pontins Open two weeks later won the 6th, Robertson the 7th with a 63, Bullock the 8th and eventually the 9th frame 60-52.
England’s No1 battered World Ladies No1 Reanne Evans 4-0 80,69,68 twice, let slip a 3-1 lead over Rob James but prevailed 4-3 with breaks of 90 and 132 to lead, James 55 and finally this forthcoming Paul Hunter Scholarship pupil Jack Lisowski 4-0 breaks of 49,54 and 111.
Lisowski had flowed earlier with efforts of 98,70 and 62 in the last three frames to beat Mitchell Mann, 90 and 65, 4-2 and repeated the feat with another salvo 99,86 and 70 to crush Sean Ward 4-1.
Brian Cox played well to beat Dean Venables 4-1 then Leo Fernandez 4-2 with runs of 55,63 and 94 but lost 4-1 to Bullock in the semi’s who made breaks of 77 and 61.
Bullock whitewashed Phil Mumford, 70 break and Lee Farebrother 4-0, 78 break on Saturday.
