Summary
With the New Year comes the Championship League snooker tournament held behind closed doors at Crondon Park Golf Club in Essex.
The winner of the series will gain a place in this autumns Premier League and Mark Selby has become the first player this year to give himself that chance.

The ‘Jester from Leicester’ fought from 2-1 behind to beat Championship League regular Ali Carter in the Group 1 final. He leveled the match with a 98 break and then was offered a chance in the final frame when Carter got a kick whilst on a break of 28. It was Carter’s last visit as Selby did enough, with a break of 37, to win frame and match.
Selby picked up £6100.00 for his efforts and Carter won £4800.00. Ali Carter now goes into Group 2 today and tomorrow for a second chance to qualify.
Selby told Worldsnooker.com after the match, “From the semi-finals onwards I was feeling tired but my chances of getting into the Premier League are better than what they were at the start. Hopefully I can now kick on and go to the Masters and do well there. It was a complete no-brainer to play in this group because the standard was fantastic and you couldn’t get any better match practice than this.”
Group 2 is made up of Shaun Murphy, John Higgins, Ali Carter, Mark Williams, Ronnie O’Sullivan, Neil Robertson and Jamie Cope.
The Championship is played behind closed doors and is broadcast to an Internet only audience via a number of betting websites.
