Summary

Championship League Snooker LogoStephen Maguire made up for lost time after electing not to play the Championship League in 2008 and 2009. The Scottish World No. 2 came from 2-0 down in his semi-final against Ali Carter to win 3-2 and book a place in the final against 2008 Championship League winner Mark Selby.

Maguire Wins on Championship League Debut

Selby didn’t seem to put up much of a fight as Maguire trounced him 3-0 to be the first player to step into the final group set for March. The unique tournament designed for Internet coverage is played behind closed doors at Crondon Park in Essex, but the lack of atmosphere did not seem to put off Maguire who won £6,200 for his efforts and will be guaranteed more money when he plays the final group in March.

Mark Selby, Judd Trump, Ali Carter and John Higgins did enough to qualify through to todays group 2 where they will be joined by three new players in Ronnie O’Sullivan, Marco Fu and Neil Robertson.
