Summary
World Snooker has announced new appointments to the board of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association. The board feels the positions are essential to the international development of Snooker. Sindhu Pulsirivong is now President of WPBSA. Since 1988, He has been the President of the Billiards Sport Association of Thailand and additionally, the President of the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports.
Pulsirivong is a current board member of the International Billiards and Snooker Federation.
Highly experienced retired referee Alan Chamberlain, professional for 28 years has been co-opted on the board to assist with governing the boards’ rules and regulations.
An invitation has been accepted by Zhang Xiaoning, a leading figure in Chinese sports administration and Chairman of the Chinese Billiards and Snooker Association.
CBSA and World Snooker have been in partnership with both the successful China Open and Roewe Shanghai Masters tournaments that began in the 2007/2008 season.
China, like Thailand are countries that have popular and growing markets in the sport of Snooker. WPSA has stressed the importance of having international representation on the board as Asia, in particular, has emerging players on the professional circuit.
Following the October 6th meeting, WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson commented
“These appointments represent our belief in the future globalisation of our sport. This now completes the board and we will be asking the members to support it.”
