Summary
Jimmy White was crowned the first winner of the Wyldecrest Park Homes World Seniors Championship when he beat Steve Davis, 4-1 over the weekend in Bradford.
Whirlwind White was 2-0 behind in his semi-final with John Parrot but got back into the match when Parrot had ran out of position 51-40 ahead. White took the next three frames to set up his final with Davis.
Steve Davis, the six time World Champion, had a chance in the 2nd frame of the final to level at 1-1, but when his break ended at 52 points, White cleared with 53. Davis won the fourth frame due to a feathering foul on the cue ball from White, but ultimately, White took home the 20,000 pound prize.
White told World Snooker.com “This has been a brilliant event, all the players have had a lot of fun and it’s been great entertainment for the fans. Hopefully it will become a regular event and I’ll get the chance to defend the title.”
The event, described as “a fantastic celebration of Snooker,” featured several snooker legends and current tour players all over the age of 40. Highlights over the three days will be shown on Sky Sports in December.
