Michael Holt has dedicated his Euro Players Tour Championship victory to his father, who suffered a stroke two months ago.

Holt, 32, beat John Higgins to win the event in Prague on Sunday - an achievement he described as the "best moment" of his career.

The Nottingham potter said: "He's very poorly and it's going to take him a long time to get better.

"But he will dig in like I did. I can't wait to show the trophy to him."

Holt jumps from 96th place to 24th on the Order of Merit and also qualifies for the Euro Players Tour Championship Grand Finals in March.

World number 42 Holt beat Stephen Maguire, Mark Selby and Shaun Murphy in earlier rounds before claiming his first win in 14 attempts against former world number one Higgins.

Holt added: "I've always said I can play the game and I'm good enough to win things."
