Tim Dunkley is a World Snooker coach based at Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club, near Southampton, Hampshire. He lives in Southampton with his wife of 28 years.
Tim was taught by Ronnie O’Sullivan’s former coach Del Hill and passed his exams at the same time as fellow MaXimumbreak coach Gavin York, Terry Griffith’s son Wayne and the 2008 European Masters champion Alan Trigg.
“How often do you change something when you’re not playing well?” asks Tim.
“Perhaps it’s moving your grip hand or your bridge hand or adjusting your stance or lengthening or shortening your backswing. The list is endless.
“And you stick with that until it all goes wrong again. And then you make another adjustment. It’s a vicious and frustrating circle.
“Coaches can instantly spot and correct things that a player will never notice in their own game.
“You need an approach, stance and cue-action that is set in stone and can be trusted. Working with a coach can achieve that.”
Tim charges £15 an hour - which includes a written assessment and table light if the session is at Chandler’s Ford - and he is willing to travel. He charges a special rate of £10 an hour for junior members of Chandler’s Ford SC.
In line with all World Snooker qualified coaches, Tim has an enhanced CRB check.
A freelance writer, Tim has been writing for MaXimumbreak since 2007. He is press officer for the World Ladies Billiards & Snooker Association and the South of England Cuestars. And he writes a weekly snooker page for his local paper, the Southern Daily Echo
