Selecting The Right Cue For You
Q1) What is a splice and how does it effect the quality of the cue?
The splices of the cue are the points you see where the ebony/rosewood part of the butt goes into the shaft. In terms of playing quality, the splices do not affect the cue, although, I would say that in machine spliced cues... Read On!

Buying a Cue Part 2
The First thing to realise then considering having a custom built cue made, or in fact buying any new cue is that the cue isn't going to do all the work for you and transform you into a better player overnight if at all. Until very recently Stephen Hendry had been playing with a medium priced maple cue that can be purchased out of most shop racks!, it's the player that's holding the cue that counts & just because you now have the same stick in your hands as Rocket Ronnie doesn't mean you will play like him, there is NO substitute for experience and vast amounts of hours spent on the table going through valuable practise routines, if your not sure what you should be practising, have a look at the TUTORIALS section of the site.

Mike Wooldridge Hand Made Cue
I have been playing Snooker on and off for about 25 years ( only 35 now) and have played to a reasonable county standard in my youth. ( unlike Mike Wooldridge i don't feel the urge to tell you I have had a 147 because i ain't!) I have owned more cues in that time than Monty has had putters, from the Argos special of the early eighties, Craftsman cues when they first started up, Hunt and O'Bryne ( should never got rid of that one), Cuecraft, Old Joe Davis cue's, the Parris Ultimate that I recently sold to Grahame out of boredom which led me to looking for a new cue and going to Mike Wooldridge after seeing the web site and requesting the opinion of David Smith at cuesnviews.com.

Mike Wooldridge Custom Cue (Thuya Burr)
Throughout the past six months I have spent time trying to obtain the perfect cue for me. Yes it has been a costly affair but I had also learnt a lot about the process of using the Internet for purchasing cues and also due to the patience of the cue makers themselves a lot to do with the actual manufacturing process itself and I have to say I am now more knowledgeable for this experience and able to pass that on to others and advise where appropriate.

Ions Custom Made Cue
Ok so we have sold on the Wooldridge custom cue..Put that one down to experience ( please see another separate review) and we now know we are never going back to a stiff piece of maple so where do we go if we don’t want to pay a similar price again but do not want to scrimp on quality?

Acuerate 147 Snooker Cue
I have been lucky in the fact that I actually got to inspect and try out not just 1 but 4 of these Acuerate 147 models. This gave me a far better idea of what is typical or untypical about them. As this cue involves some scientific claims I have also had to have the cue analysed by experts in the field of physics. I had to get a better idea of the concept as the Acuerate website doesn't have any info relating to the no throw principal.

Wood Types For Cue Building
There are hundreds of different wood species that are available for modern day cue building. Some of these woods are more widely used than others. Some woods will be chosen for their decorative and visually appealing grain patterns, whilst others will be chosen for their density to make cue butts.

Arch Fine Cues Cue Review
As a keen follower of snooker, John realised that there was very little new or exiting happening in the way of cue making which led him to address this issue. By subtly fusing traditional hands-on crafstmanship, precision engineering and state-of-the-art technology, John now produces world class cues both aesthetically and in terms of performance.

Riley Paul Hunter Cue
This is a cue I bought recently in Argos. I bought it on the basis that it was a good price and I could take it back if I didn't like it.

Custom Mini Butts
Most of you will have read my articles on the protective base plug and the review on the Mastercue SE-6 mini butt extension. In that review I found that product lacking in weight and quality. The main negative issue regrding the SE-6 was its lack of feel and familiarity. As soon as it was attached, that bond that a player has with his cue was broken. This is a particularly bad thing when you consider that a mini butt is required on that is made more complex by being just out of reach, it doesn’t need further complications provided by the extension itself.

Dominator Cue by Crafstman Cues
This cue was ordered from Maximum Break’s website. The ordering process was very easy with the cue being delivered in a week and half from ordering this included several emails and phone conversations keeping me up to date and asking for details when required.
